The Chicago Tribune and New York Times have reported that Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter who killed 32 fellow students in a shooting rampage, was taking antidepressant drugs. This is not the first time a school shooting rampage has been linked to antidepressants. The infamous Columbine High shootings took place almost exactly eight years prior, and the shooters in that rampage were also - you guessed it - taking antidepressant drugs.

The Archives of Pediatrics Medicine indicates that the use of psychiatric drugs by children more than doubled for the decade of 1987 to 1996. Research from the University of Maryland tracked 900,000 children for that decade and found that psychotropic drug use by children under 18 almost tripled from 2.5 percent to 6.7 percent.
Chemical Imbalance?

Judge Paul Conlon said attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was the most over-diagnosed condition in the community, with "naughty kids whacked" on drugs like the powerful stimulant Ritalin.
